The pandemic and the ensuing lockdown have severely affected the economy. Job cuts meant many are now without a source of income. Financial stress combined with the economic uncertainty and the risk of infection are at the forefront of everyone's mind. Societies all around the world are collectively facing an unprecedented level of challenges that have severely affected people's mental well-being. For many, this may be the first time they are in distress. They might be too ashamed to ask for help. Or just have no idea who to turn to.
The more sobering thought is they could very well be people we know - friends, relatives, co-workers, neighbours, loved ones. No one is immuned.
What can we do about it?
As a charitable organisation that has been working to bolster mental well-being in marginalised communities for years, SOLS Health is opening its doors to those severely hard hit by the pandemic and unable to afford counselling to help them get through this pandemic. It typically costs an individual between RM300-400 for a therapy session with a qualified clinical psychologist in a private centre. In times of financial distress, most are unable to afford even one session.
During the month of November, in conjunction with Men's Mental Health month, SOLS Health is running a fundraising campaign to allow us to provide counselling services to those who are in distress FOR FREE. The RM250,000 raised through this campaign will allow us to provide 625 free therapy sessions to those in need.
Jason Desmond aka JD, host of breakfast radio on Lite FM has partnered with SOLS Health for this fundraising campaign. He is not much of a spicy-food eater but he has pledged to eat a bowl of spicy ramen on his podcast, The Jantan Collective, if we exceed our goal of raising RM250,000 by 9 p.m. KL time on 30/11/2020. So if you want to see him sweat, click on that Donate button on the right and donate!

SOLS Health is a behavioural health centre that connects clients to accessible individual, family and community mental health and nutritional services with an emphasis on combating the stigma of mental health in Malaysia. We believe that behavioural health is one of the most critical determinants to physical health, personal wellness and good quality of life. We will not stop until going to the psychologist for your behavioural problems is recognised and accepted in the same light as going to the doctor for your medical problems. We exist because we believe that there is no health without mental health.
