The Problem
As of October 2022, nearly 200K asylum seekers were registered with UNHCR in Malaysia. Many remain undocumented. Malaysia is not a signatory of the 1951 Refugee Convention and does not have a legal or administrative sytem that protects the rights of refugees leaving them subject to numerous forms of violence and discrimination as well as a lack of access to healthcare, education and other basic human rights.
Refugee students cannot access public school. There are several refugee schools run across the country, for their students. However, they are short on funds and have very limited resources, and often cannot accomodate the many asylum seeking students that find themsleves in Malaysia.
Help us give them the education they deserve.
Your money will be donated to the Fugee Scholarship Fund. With 3,000 RM we can fund higher education for 20 refugee students for at least three months.
The Fugee School has educated 500 refugee students over the years, blending syllabuses from Singapore and the UK in combination with a holisitic approach incooperating social and emotional development, and academic and crisis support.
About Empowering Equalities
EE 10.0 is a project based on Sustainable Development Goal 10.2, which aims to increase and promote the awareness and inclusivity of refugees by raising awareness about the issues faced by the refugee community and conducting workshops for refugee students with the hopes of assisting their integration into society.
