THE PROBLEM
Because of the COVID-19 Movement Control Order, many families have lost their income and pregnant undocumented mothers in Malaysia who are about to deliver their babies cannot afford the medical fees.
What are their options? Do they deliver at home and risk medical complications for mother and babies? Do they go to a hospital knowing they can’t to pay later and risk being arrested?
THE SOLUTION
A collective of NGOs is urgently seeking funds to help.
With each normal delivery costing between RM3,000 to RM4,000 (this may double in the case of emergency C-sections and other complications), *the target is to raise at least RM150,000* from various channel.
This campaign aims to contribute RM50,000 to the total amount being collected, that would pay for medical fees for 12 mothers to deliver their babies safely.
Organizations behind this initiative:
Yayasan Chow Kit
The Hope Branch
Refuge for the Refugees
Puak Payong
Geutanyoe Malaysia
Malaysian Social Research Institute
THE IMPACT
“Pregnant mothers send photo after photo of the baby’s ultrasound images and plead for me to help. “We have no money. Please help. My baby is coming. “ I think I’m traumatised because I can’t sleep. Overthinking. We need solutions- a reprieve period/ am installment period to pay off their medical bills over time. Breadwinners in poor marginalised families have lost their jobs and income.”
With the funds collected, we can provide medical care for a safe delivery for the mothers and babies. In this day and age, no mother and newborn should be prevented from getting the right medical care.
