Hi! I am Wan June, currently studying in Universiti Malaysia Sabah which is known as one of the most beautiful university campuses in the country with fascinating view for the beaches and mountains.
In the recent years, marine plastic pollution has caught my attention and I believe that this global issue has become even worse during the COVID-19 pandemic due to the huge consumption of single-use plastic such as plastic utensil, takeaway food containers and online delivery packaging when everyone is restricted at home. Some of the plastic wastes have also ended up on the streets and when it rains, they will eventually end up in the seas and among wildlife as a result of improper disposal of plastic wastes. This phenomenon will obviously disrupt the balance of life for marine animals. For example, I am quite sure that you must have heard some of these heartbreaking stories about marine life ingesting, being strangled or injured from plastics waste in the ocean and this had caused their deaths through suffocation.
Therefore, let’s do our bit in making the ocean safer for those who call it home!
And here, we have our very own conservation project known as Nature Warrior 5.0, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal #14 of Life Below Water that aims to mitigate undesirable impacts on marine environment in Sabah and to raise public awareness about marine environmental issues. In 2019, We have collaborated with Kudat Turtle Conservation Society to have coral framing, coral planting, beach clean up, rebuilding turtle hatchery and educational workshops throughout the project timeline.
With that, it is high time for us to make changes now before we lose our marine life for good.
As we need sufficient fund to run this project, I would appreciate it if you could make your contributions by donating on my crowdfunding page or you could also help us by sharing this to your family and friends.
Thank you for your generosity and kindness in advance! Have a nice day :)
