The Story

Hello, we are MDIS Malaysia students. Our group consists of 3 members who are Jia Wen, Pei Qi and Navendran. The ongoing pandemic situation has exacerbated the existing poverty rate among the underprivileged community, especially among the refugee community. Even before the COVID-19 the people from the underserved community were working a low-income job and struggling to provide basic necessities for their loved ones. After the government announced the countrywide lockdown, it has greatly affected the household income and health level of the underserved community. In addition, they are required to purchase additional health supplies such as face masks and hand sanitizers to keep themselves protected from the virus.

We were disheartened by this situation. That is why we joined this fundraising campaign because we wanted to give the underserved community a better chance to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. Together with SERUM our aim is to help 2,000 beneficiaries get reusable face masks and hand sanitisers. For every RM 10 donated, RM 5 will be used to buy 50 ml of hand sanitisers and RM 5 will be used to buy reusable face masks. We believe that if everyone contributes a small amount to this cause can help reduce the burden of the refugees and urban poor community. The act of kindness will allow us to connect with others, creates a stronger community and aids to build a happier Malaysian community.

We believe that people have the power to improve the lives of others is, to many people, a privilege, and one that comes with its own sense of obligation. Acting on these powerful feelings of responsibility is a great way to reinforce our own personal values and feel like we’re living in a way that is true to our own ethical beliefs.
