The Story

There are an estimated total of 200,000 refugees in Malaysia, but who really are they?

The two most prevalent refugee groups in Malaysia are the Chin and the Rohingya, originating from Myanmar.

Refugees are regular people with dreams, ambitions, and talents just like us. The biggest difference is that they are an ethnic group whose homeland actively persecutes them simply due to their ethnicity.

Thus, refugees flee to Malaysia in hopes for a better life.

Currently, the Malaysian government does not legally recognise refugees and so, they are unable to obtain legal work or attend public schools.

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, around 80% of the refugee community face difficulties such as:

  • refugee students lacking internet access & digital devices for online classes

  • parents facing job losses / poor working conditions

  • students lacking access to public exam certifications

  • education centres facing a high turnover of teachers due to minimal compensation

ElShaddai Learning Centre and The Peace Education Centre are some of the few refugee learning centres providing education to refugee students in Malaysia.

♡ Education is a passport to the future-- donate and help keep these refugee centres running. However big or small your contribution, it makes a real impact in these refugee’s lives by paving them a road for a brighter tomorrow. ♡
