Education for Refugees in Malaysia #CreateAnInclusiveCommunity

The Story

*This fundraiser is part of the empowering equalities campaign by AIESEC in Sunway. The total target is 2500MYR. Funds collected beyond targetted amount WILL ALSO be donated to the learning centre.

We are Leong Yii Yien and Ruqaya Zuhair, volunteers from AIESEC in Sunway, working on the Empowering Equalities 8.0 project in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 10.2 to raise awareness on how education can drastically improve the lives of refugees.

Many of us are very fortunate to have a roof over our heads, warm meals and stable access to education. However, this is not the case for many children out there. As of November 2021, there are 179,830 refugees and asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR in Malaysia. Unfortunately, more than 25% of them are minors below the age of 18. They do not have access to public schools in Malaysia. Hence, their only door to education is their learning centres which do not have sustainable funds.

What can you do to help these refugees? We are calling on you to support Malaysia’s refugee learning centres. Funds raised through this campaign will be donated to ElShaddai Refugee Learning Centre (ERLC), a centre which educates refugees and provides them with healthcare and emergency relief. With the ongoing pandemic, these children are adversely affected due to their financial restrictions and the lack of accessibility to education. Therefore, your donation, even if it's just a small amount, would contribute to the positive transformation of these children’s lives.
