Hi! It's Theophilia and Sin Yee here from AIESEC in Sunway. We are volunteers from Empowering Equalities and we hope to make a difference in the society, or even just in the life of a person.
Are you constantly complaining about what you don't possess but never really cherish what you already have? As Malaysian citizens, welfare aids such as public healthcare, financial assistance and free education are provided by the government. Unfortunately, the refugees aren’t eligible for these supports.
Paying a visit to the orphanage is indeed a common way to show one's kindness, but what about those kids that don't even have a recognized nationality? There are approximately 45,870 of refugees under the age of 18 in Malaysia and most of them do not have access to proper education. Learning centers are the only way for the refugees to be educated. We believe all of us agree that education is the only way for them to change their future.
However, the refugees are paying costly education fees especially during the pandemic. The alarming rate of refugees struggling to gain access to education needs to be addressed:
Lack of fund to support the learning centre’s education system
Lack of materials and electronic devices for the refugee children
Refugees losing jobs and unable to cover their living expenses
*Who is benefited? / Where will the funds go?
EIShaddai Refugee Learning Centre (ERLC)
We might not have the chance to support them physically, so why not give them hope by helping them financially! Our objective is to assist the vulnerable community and make an impact in their lives.
Education is a right, not a privilege.
