The Story

Our names are Hana Zofian and Nicholas Choong. We are volunteers from AIESEC Sunway in the Empowering Equalities 10.0 programme. Empowering Equalities 10.0 aims to raise awareness on refugees and enhance the social integration of refugee youth by improving their pathway to education.

During our volunteering, we see that students are going back to school with all the materials they need without fearing the absence of financial support or discrimination in obtaining education.

However, that is the harsh reality for youths that fled from a place of war and violence. Refugee youth in Malaysia have resorted to doing odd jobs and are being exploited to work long hours for low wages. Youths are especially vulnerable to such exploitation because companies know they do not have any other option to make ends meet as they face discrimination everywhere else. This becomes a difficult barrier for refugee youths to achieve their hopes and dreams because they do not even have a sufficient income to get by their day, let alone sustain their education.

Doing odd jobs in the long run will be detrimental to their physical and mental health and does not guarantee a stable future. Therefore, it is our duty to break the barrier to their dreams and create an escape from their current hardships of living.

This is possible by providing them access to formal education. Education is vital for refugee youth because it allows them to fulfil their dreams, elevates them from poverty and protects them from exploitation.

You can make a difference in their lives today.

We invite you to support the funding of refugee students to higher education by donating to the Fugee Scholarship Fund under Fugee school.

Fugee school is a non-profit educational centre for refugee youths and has provided holistic education and life skills programmes to refugee students from age ranging from 4 to 20.

Fugee Scholarship Fund is a scholarship programme that aims to obtain RM 3,000.00 with the initiative to provide a safe and equipped learning environment for 20 refugee students undertaking their higher education.

As volunteers of the programme, my partner and I aim to collect a total of RM 500.00 that will go to the Fugee Scholarship Fund to support its initiative.

By donating, you are opening opportunities for refugee youths to create a stable future, empower them to lead their independent lives and strengthen their community with the knowledge they have gained. Your donation also contributes to a positive shift in the economy which benefits the nation in moving forward by boosting innovation and productivity in society. Therefore, let us not leave this as another conversation and put our action forward into realising a better future for the refugee youths.

Giving is not just about making a donation, it's about making a difference.
