THE PROBLEM

According to research by SWCorp 2017, there are 16,688 tonnes of food waste generated daily in Malaysia; amongst them, 4,005 tonnes are avoidable, which caused every household waste about RM225 monthly. Inspire to reduce at least 50% of food waste by the end of 2030 through cultivating responsible consumption habits, Clean Our Plate started its journey in 2016 in creating awareness, providing easy and obvious initiatives to youth in Malaysia through school workshops, café engagement, University collaboration, and public awareness.

Statistics show that the amount of food wasted in the world is increasing every year. However, this doesn't mean that everyone gets enough food. When some of the people are starving or even died because of hunger, at the same time, there are some other people who don't appreciate what they have and waste their food. Food waste contributes to environmental pollution too, as it'll generate extra carbon gas to the Earth. Therefore, we shouldn't look down on this problem. In Malaysia alone, 15,000 tonnes of food are wasted daily. It is enough to feed almost 2.2 million people. This shows that the awareness of Malaysians towards this issue is still low. Thus, there are many NGOs and government departments taking action to solve the problem.

THE SOLUTION

By having this campaign, we hope to solve the food waste problem, reduce food waste generated in society, and initiate simple action in food waste management. We'll be having an online campaign to increase society's awareness of the issue, workshops to teach the secondary students on ways to manage food waste, etc. Besides, we want to help the underprivileged. We want to donate surplus food to them so that when we're reducing the food waste, we're also helping the needy.

  1. Train the Trainer (TtT)

  • Prepare and deliver special sessions to promote active learning.

  1. Food Donation Drive

  • To help the underprivileged and B40 families, especially during the COVID-19 situation.

  • To raise awareness for society to donate surplus food to their nearest food banks.

  1. Online Campaign

  • To raise awareness of the public about food waste issues.

THE IMPACT

Once completed, our participants will have more knowledge on the food waste issue. They'll also be more appreciative of their food. Directly, they'll try their best to reduce food waste.

About the Organization/Project behind this Campaign

AIESEC in Penang

Our Identity

AIESEC is the world's largest non-profit youth-run organization. It is an international non-governmental not-for-profit organisation that provides young people with leadership development, cross-cultural global internships, and volunteer exchange experiences across the globe. The organization focuses on empowering young leaders to make a positive impact on society through actions.

Our Vision

AIESEC strives for Peace and Fulfilment of Humankind's Potential as an organisation.

In today’s context, ‘Peace’ does not necessarily mean only avoiding war. Peace can symbolise a world that does not have conflicts that arise from cultural, religious, or other aspects of differences in humanity. Peace can also symbolise being in harmony with yourself. AIESEC strives to build a world where people can work towards their own understanding of peace while respecting and understanding the views of others.

Through Fulfilment of Humankind’s Potential, AIESEC strives for a world where people can be the best version of themselves.

Our Action

We place our confidence in youth because they have the passion, dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit that are needed to shape the future. They have the responsibility to improve tomorrow by choosing who they will be today. Hence, AIESEC is a platform for young leaders to run projects that are aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure its relevance to the local community needs. We aim to be part of the solution for a betterment of Malaysia.
