Hi there! I'm Aideed, one of the volunteers of AIESEC UM's Clean Our Plate Project.

Did you know that as much as 45% (around 4,080,000 Kilograms) of our daily domestic solid waste are food waste? To our surprise, 24% of that are EDIBLE food waste! To put into perspective, that amounts to 17,361,702 packs of Nasi Ayam or 340,000,000 cookies — just how many zeroes are there? — or any crazy amount of your favourite delicacies (well, you get the point). This much food is enough to feed 3 million people 3 meals a day!

In the midst of the current pandemic where food insecurity is through the roof, we strive to raise the awareness of our local communities about food waste by cultivating responsible consumption and management. We need to stop taking our food for granted!

Through this campaign, Clean Our Plate AIESEC in the University of Malaya is collaborating with Yayasan Food Bank Malaysia intending to raise the fund which will be used to purchase food donations items for the underprivileged end beneficiary, to impact around 150 communities that assist them during this difficult pandemic period.
