The Story

Hi, I am Tan Yuan Shin from Sunway University. I join the Malaysian Youth Volunteer by AIESEC in Sunway for the action for equality because I am aware that women are not being treated equally in their worklife and also facing some issues such as sexual harrassment. This project is under sustainable development goal (sdg) 5, gender equality. The purpose of fundraising for this campaign is to protect women in our country so they could get what they should get and prevent the sexual harrassment happened to them. I will collaborate with Non-government Organisation for gender equality. Women will be the demographic segment I mainly target to and men will be second because they playing a role as women's son, husband, father will also protect them from being teased.

The overall gender equality increased to 0.714 (71.4%) in 2020 using the Malaysia Gender Gap Index (MGGI) score, which measures the difference between men and women across four sub-indices: economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment. The score is considered to be attained when it reaches 1.0 (100%), which represents gender equality.

Malaysia's Chief Statistician, Dr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin, stated: "Based on the MGGI 2020 score, we were rated 74th out of 156 countries worldwide. At the same time, Malaysia maintained its eighth-place finish in East Asia and the Pacific, ahead of Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, China, and Brunei Darussalam.

In fact, for increasing the gender equality in other states in Malaysia, we need to support the NGOs for gender equality so they have more budget to fight for us. Thank you for your time.
