Currently, over 23,000 tonnes of waste is produced each day in Malaysia. However, this amount is expected to rise to 30,000 tonnes by the year 2020. The amount of waste generated continues to increase due to the increasing population and development, and only less than 5% of the waste is being recycled.
In accordance with the 12th Global Goal - Sustainable consumption & production, this project is created to specifically target awareness and to educate about 5R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rot, Refuse) among high school students.
The project consists of several components for both secondary school students and global volunteers.
1st - Train the Trainer (TtT)
Which aims to equip our volunteers with enough knowledge and skills when we are engaging and teaching students about environmental theory and some activities.
2nd - School Workshops
Which aims to raise environmental awareness through education and outreach activities to empower Malaysian youths to be the agent of change for the protection and conservation of the environment with sustainable environmental management.
3rd - Action Initiative Planning
Which aims to evaluate the project deliverables and impacts, and to ensure the sustainability of our impacts even if the projects have ended with the school teachers, global volunteers and our committees.
4th - Global Village
Which aims to foster cultural exchange with the global volunteers showcasing their food, cultural elements from their home country.
Green Lantern Titans have reached more than 33 Global Volunteers, 6 Secondary Schools and 401 Secondary Students from the Year 2017 - 2019. Last year's June Summer project, GLT OC and EP team collaboration with Trash Hero Perlis picked up and cleaned up 80.7 Kilograms of trash in Majlis Terapung Kuala Perlis. Most of our stakeholders have ranked our project with a score of 7 or 8 out of 10.
